Abstract:
To determine whether multi-stage detonation system could be used to launch high-velocity projectile, experiments have been done to accelerate forged projectile by modified two-stage detonation acceleration system. In experiments, a shaped charge was used to take the place of the 2nd stage in traditional setup. The height of explosive upon the liner in the shaped charge was varied to find its effect on terminal velocity of projectile. Numerical simulation was used to certify experimental results and good agreement of both was got. Experimental results show that, in comparison with shaped charge, the two-stage detonation system can increase the terminal velocity of explosive forged projectile, and has the capability to launch projectile with velocity larger than 3 km/s.
