Abstract:
In order to widen the application of gelcasting in porous ceramics, rheological behavior of alumina-spinel(3∶1) slurries is studied using viscometry.Naphtalene, fecula and polyvinyl alcohol were used as pore-forming additives.A series of alumina-spinel(3∶1) porous ceramics were prepared by gelcasting. After burning out sintering and measuring the porosity applying X-ray diffraction, the hightest level of porosity is found to be 52.8% and the volume density(1.84 g·cm
-3.) It is shown that the method is effective for the preparation of porous ceramics.
