Abstract: A problem of interoperability between product data management (PDM) and enterprise application systems is discussed with the model driven architecture (MDA). After analyzing the architecture pitfalls of current PDM systems, a six-tiered architecture of PDM system is proposed with the idea of MDA. Along with discussions of the key techniques involved and the development process persistent to MDA, a PDM system has been developed adopting XML and Web service to realize information sharing and function integration. The feasibility of MDA approach to solve the problem of integration, interoperability, interchangeability is verified.
