Abstract:
Aim To evaluate the availability of passive acoustic localization and tracking. Methods An experimental system for passive acoustic target localization and tracking was developed. Based on this system, experiments both for static objects localization and for moving objects localization and tracking were made. Results The precision of direction estimation is high but the precision of range estimation is poor for the static object; as to the moving object with constant speed, parameters such as range and speed can be precisely estimated by fusing the direction and Doppler shift frequency information. Conclusion Passive acoustic tracking can be available to constant speed target, based on time delay estimation for direction finding and frequency estimation for Doppler shift information.
